For years, my wife, Vanessa, and I had been working in the restaurant business in San Francisco, but we saw the growing restaurant scene in Austin and how open-minded the city was—it was exactly what we were looking for.

Six years ago, I came to Texas and traveled across the state, teaching cooking classes in new cities every week. Along the way, we stopped in Austin. For years, my wife, Vanessa, and I had been working in the restaurant business in San Francisco, but we saw the growing restaurant scene in Austin and how open-minded the city was—it was exactly what we were looking for. Soon, we packed everything in the truck, sold the house and drove all the way here. It was the beginning of our Austin adventure.
